The Texas A&M Faculty Senate praised Lt. Gen. John Van Alstyne, the 38th commandant of the Corps of Cadets, at its meeting Monday.
The body unanimously passed a resolution thanking the 65-year-old for a "job superbly done."
Van Alstyne, who took over as chief administrator of the Corps in 2002, was admired by faculty for his focus on academics and hard-line stance against hazing.
"[He] made concerted efforts to eliminate hazing as a standard operating procedure among Corps members and units, thus better aligning them with the modern practices of the United States Armed Forces," the three-paragraph resolution stated.
Van Alstyne resigned Jan. 22, the day after R. Bowen Loftin was named sole finalist for the Texas A&M presidency by the nine-member Texas A&M Board of Regents.
