Schools across the Brazos Valley are shutting down as heavy snow flurries turn the area into a winter wonderland — one that could be dangerous as the flakes mix with the morning rain.

Tuesday night classes were canceled at both Texas A&M and Blinn College.

A&M, the A&M System, Health Science Center and Blinn all will open up two hours late Wednesday.

At A&M, officials said the provision doesn’t apply to emergency personnel or others considered essential by their supervisors. Transportation Services will begin running buses at 9 a.m. Wednesday.

Changes overnight will be posted on the A&M Web site(www.tamu.edu) and Blinn site (www.blinn.edu), as well as at theeagle.com.

Leon’s school district is expected to be shutdown throughout Wednesday.

Bryan and College Station school districts, along with the below districts, will start two hours late (buses also will run two hours behind; in most cases, staff should report at least 30 minutes earlier):

• Anderson-Shiro

• Buffalo

• Burton

• Calvert

• Cameron

• Centerville

• Dime Box

• Franklin

• Gause

• Hearne

• Iola

• Madisonville

Other delay times for public schools include:

• Normangee and North Zulch open at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday

Private schools:

Brazos Christian School, St. Michaels Academy, St. Jopseh Catholic School, all in Bryan, and St. Thomas Aquinas Child Development Center in College Station will open at 10 a.m.

On Tuesday afternoon, officials called off Teen Court in College Station and even early voting locations shut down at 4 p.m., but are expected to start up again at 10 a.m. Wednesday.

Meanwhile, several area high school sporting events scheduled for Tuesday have been postponed because of weather, including the basketball playoff games for Bryan and A&M Consolidated.

In sports, the Consol boys basketball game against DeSoto has been pushed back a day. The game was rescheduled for 6:30 p.m. Wednesday at Waco Midway High School because of winter weather conditions in the Waco area.

Bryan’s boys game against Mesquite Horn will be played as the second half of a doubleheader at Waco Midway, with the start set for 8 p.m. The game was scheduled to be played at McLennan Community College, but that facility will not be available Wednesday.

The Bryan girls basketball game against DeSoto was rescheduled for 7 p.m. Wednesday at Waco Robinson High School.

Bryan, Consolidated and Rudder have postponed games in soccer and softball as well.

The Bryan boys soccer match against Copperas Cove has been rescheduled for 5:30 p.m. Wednesday at Merrill Green Stadium. Bryan's girls soccer match at Cove also was postponed until Wednesday.

Consolidated's home softball game against Copperas Cove has been pushed back to 5 p.m. Wednesday, and the JV game will not be played.

The Rudder softball team’s home game against Columbus has been canceled, along with the JV game.
