Bryan police are warning residents to be aware of an automated phone scam that is an attempt to steal financial information.
Police said the call claims to be from First National Bank, and the message says, "Your account has been locked. To unlock your account, call 1-800-691-8559 and provide your account number."
Local bank representatives have confirmed that the message did not originate from their phone system and that they do not send out automated recordings with that information, police said.
Police remind residents never to send money or give out personal information, credit card numbers and expiration dates, bank account numbers, dates of birth or Social Security numbers to callers or companies with which they are not familiar. Residents should call the bank to verify any messages, police said.
