Several Brazos Valley school districts will remain closed this week because power will be out indefinitely for many area counties.
Nearly all of Grimes and Madison counties remained dark Tuesday, as did large portions of Burleson and Robertson counties.
Navasota and Madisonville school districts will be closed through the week. Iola-Shiro schools will reopen Sept. 22, officials said.
Iola, Anderson, Richards, Madisonville, Normangee, North Zulch, Bremond, Franklin and Mumford schools were closed Tuesday.
Officials urged parents to call the main administration numbers in their districts to follow up.
In Burleson County, Somerville schools were closed for the week, though teachers and staff members were instructed to report at 9 a.m. Friday for a work day. Caldwell schools also remained closed until further notice because of the power outage.
In Milam County, only the 250-person community of Gause remained without power. But emergency management officials said Monday that the district planned to hold half-day classes this week, beginning Tuesday. The move allows for teaching in core curriculum areas.
Students will be dismissed at 12:30 p.m. Buses will run on a normal schedule. Various activities are scheduled for students who don't have transportation and must stay on campus and wait for the bus.
