A department head at Texas A&M University died Tuesday after jumping from the Northside Parking Garage, according to officials.
Details surrounding the death of James Aune, a professor who led the Department of Communication, have not been released.
A university police spokesman said authorities are working to gather information that soon will be shared with the public.
Aune was considered an expert in rhetoric theory and the First Amendment. He authored Rhetoric and Marxism and Selling the Free Market, for which he was awarded the 2003 National Communication Association Diamond Anniversary Book Award.
Aune, who earned his doctorate at Northwestern University, was honored with the university-wide Association of Former Students Teaching Award in 2004.
It wasn’t immediately clear who will take over his classes when the session begins later this month.
