Texas A&M University police continue to search for a suspicious individual after receiving a report Thursday that a man appeared to be carrying a weapon on campus.

University Police Lt. Alan Baron said the report was phoned in around 4:30 p.m. The reporting party said she observed a man who appeared to have a handgun in the waistband of his pants and was walking south on Throckmorton Street by the Sanders Corps of Cadets Center.

I can see some critics' perspectives on KBTX and elsewhere about issuing a campus-wide alert for a brief sighting of what might have been a toy/part of a Halloween costume from the previous night, but after the USC shooting the night before, erring on the side of caution is understandable.
