The next athletic director for the University of Texas could be someone with strong Aggie ties, according to Texas Monthly.

The magazine rolled out a top 10 list of people who could be the next UT athletic director on Tuesday, and two of the names had Aggie ties.

With Byrnes financial mismanagement of the athletics department and irresponsible spending, throwing money at already failed coaches to the point where athletics had to borry money from the university, I doubt anyone would touch him at this point. Now, credit is due when he brought in good coaches (not for football obviously) that won natl championships but that hardly covers the fact that athletics had to borrow money and the students most likely were on the hook to pay it off through increased fees. They didn't get rid of Byrne fast enough!

I just want to know why someone like Jason Cook makes more money than any instructor or anyone who has anything to do with fulfilling TAMU's education mission.I don't know of anyone who has gotten a degree, a job or an education simply because Jason Cook was at the wheel.

It would've surprised me if he was a contender. There's no room for longevity and his better days are quite possibly behind him.

I guess sports management would be the closest. Surprised dollar Bill Byrne isn't coming out as a contender.

"Not so fast my friend!" Jason is not a formers student, but he IS an Aggie!

He would be a perfect fit for TU and is definitely not an Aggie. Crooked as they come and self-promoting. I wouldn’t be surprised if he wasn’t the one that let the writer know about this

You would be surprised at how many ADs (essentially, CEOs) don't have degrees in the job they are currently performing. There isn't a degree plan for Athletic Directors, but business degrees, more than sports degrees, are the norm for that kind of job. A lot of athletes have degrees in Media Relations (Communications). ADs do not necessarily have to be athletes, but they do have to be able to manage large multimillion dollar programs. A management degree of some sort is fairly common for ADs. Eric Hyman has degrees in Education and Educational Administration. Bill Byrne has a degree in Business and an MBA.

How is someone with a primarily marketing background a contender?

Yeah, but his wife is an Aggie and he has lots of other Aggies in the family.

That The Eagle can't make that distinction is hardly surprising.

Cook is not an Aggie if he is a graduate of Mississippi State, right?
