First Yell 2014 will feature a "Texas Dancehall Legends" theme on Sept. 5 at Kyle Field, the night before Texas A&M's home football opener against Lamar.
The lineup, according to Richard Biondi, executive director of the Association of Former Yell Leaders: Johnny Bush (best known for Whiskey River), Gary P. Nunn (London Homesick Blues), Joe Ely (of The Flatlanders and solo fame) and former A&M students Roger Creager and Max Stalling. Biondi said the stadium setup will be similar to last year's First Yell, which starred Lyle Lovett, Robert Earl Keen, Emmylou Harris and Rodney Crowell. This will be the third year that First Yell has featured music at Kyle Field, after mostly comedy-based events at Reed Arena from 1999 to 2011.
Ticket information will be announced in early July, Biondi said, and available at 12thmanfoundation.com. Proceeds will help fund the yell leaders' activities for the upcoming school year.
