Two men remained jailed Monday after police said they stole tires and rims from a Bryan automotive store.
Braulio Pascaul Herrera,26, was arrested Sunday for theft of service between $1,500 and $20,000 and driving with an invalid license. Jason Saldivar, 38, was charged with theft of property between $1,500 and $20,000. Both are from Bryan.
Police responded to a call about a theft at 10:08 p.m. at Sterling Auto Group at 205 North Earl Rudder Freeway, according to a police report. A witness said he saw two males take rims and tires from the back fence area of the business off Barak Street, and he was following the suspects, police said.
Police said in a report that they caught up with the vehicle matching the witness' description in the 3600 block of Stillmeadow. Herrera and Saldivar both admitted they entered the property through the back fence and stole tires, the report states.
Police said they found two boards knocked out from the back fence of the property and found two tires and two rims hidden in the woodline on the south side of the dealership outside the fenced area, ready to be picked up later. The back of Saldivar's vehicle could only hold two tires and two rims at a time, they said..
The tires were being kept in a locked cage area behind the main building, and a bolt and nuts were missing from the bottom of the fence, police stated. They reported finding the missing bolt and nuts and wrenches on Saldivar, along with sockets and a cap to a rim that was in his car.
Police said in the report they also found gloves, sockets, lug nut keys, a socket extension and a wrench inside the vehicle.
Herrera was in jail in lieu of $21,000 bail. Saldivar was in jail in lieu of $5,000 bail.
The theft charges are state jail felonies punishable by up to two years in jail and a fine up to $10,000. Driving while license invalid is a misdemeanor punishable by up to six months in jail and a fine up to $500.
