Bryan man ran over woman, police say

A Bryan man was arrested and charged with aggravated assault with a deadly weapon Tuesday, several months after police said he ran over a woman with his car and then fled the scene.

The charge is a state jail felony punishable by up to two years behind bars.

According to the police report, the woman said she was walking down Columbus Avenue at 2 a.m. April 11 when a man kept passing by her in his maroon car, asking for sexual favors.

The report states that at some point, the man tried to pull her into his car and punched the woman in the face when she refused to succumb to his request.

After a brief scuffle, the woman was able to get away from him by cutting his hand with a knife, but the driver ran the woman over and then backed up and ran her over again, according to the report that details how a piece of the vehicle's running board fell off in the process.

The woman was able to crawl out of the road and into a nearby yard before the vehicle tried to run her over for a third time, authorities said.

Within hours, authorities located a car matching the description. After getting a search warrant for the car owned by 21-year-old Jose Bedolla, police said they found a bloody jacket that belonged to the woman.

Officer Jason James, spokesman for the department, said it is unclear why Bedolla wasn't arrested until several months later.

Bedolla was released on $50,000 bail Tuesday.

Comment Title: why didn't the Eagle report this incident when it happened?
This incident happened almost two months ago. why wasn't it reported then. I know the woman that this despicable thing happened to. When the incident happened I have been waiting to read about it in the Eagle, but it wasn't reported. Maybe if it was reported the culprit may have been caught much sooner.

QUIT SCREAMING, and learn to spell. There is a college in Bryan, it is called Blinn. By your own estimattion 50% of Bryan residents are on drugs or are criminals. As a longtime Bryan resident, you make me sick to my stomach. Quit stuffing cocaine up your nose and marajuana in your lungs in front of your children and grand children. Spank them when they do wrong, don't teach them how to evade the "po'lice" and be an example of good, not how to live like a cockroach so the pigs don't stop you for not having your vehicle properly licensed and accidentally find your stash so you can then cry racism. No, we won't move to Hearne, that town was destroyed by people like you. 95% of the people I associate with in Bryan are not criminals, drug abusers or scumbags so you know nothing. The folks that toss bait about Bryan VS CS are just having fun with simpletons, you are an ignorant jackass.

This beautiful woman was injured by a man who has obviously had emotional issues all his life. Please try to understand where he's coming from. He was angry and didn't know how to control himself. This Bryan man needs our help, not our condemnation

For Gwen and others: to= to school, to the grocery store, etc. too=too hot, too fat, too busy, etc. their= possession of anything, their coat, their car, their front yard, etc there= over there, there she goes, there is a stop sign, etc they're= a contraction of two words, they and are, as in, they are fighting again, or correctly, they're fighting again.... your= your possessions, your hair, your purse, etc you're= a contraction of two words, you and are, as in you are cheating, or you're cheating, you are sweating, or you're sweating. Much more could be discussed here, but you get the idea, hopefully....the misuse of these words would indicate you do not even know the subject, or, how to write about it......no credibility. Since someone posted there are so many colleges nearby, (college students are responsible for the crime rate in both cities, sure---that is a stretch of anyone's imagination) why not enroll in one of them, and learn your own language correctly? Posting here indicates you have ample time on your hands to improve yourself and possibly your lot in life = win/win for all.

I can't believe that a woman gets run over twice and with a third attempt and the only thing you losers can argue about is the town it happened in. Havent you ever seen the signs.. BCS... we are all one town and if you dont take this guy off the street who has so little regard for human life for more then two years it just might be your front yard hes running you into next. After all the city limit zone from bryan you can spit over and you never really know you left one town to the next so i am sure his car can travel into cs... 2 years is crazy for attempted murder!!

I totally agree with Gwen! Most of these blogs are nothing but a cowards way of expressing his racist remarks with revealing his whereabouts. I think all websites with blogs should be held accountable for the idiots they let blog comments of hate. I lived in College Station for many years as well as Bryan and neither is any better than the other. I do believe minorities need to open their eyes and take a stand against the racist people there before it is to late. The way to change a situation, and this is to all, is to get involved! Stop putting up with the crap that is going on there! Write letters to your government, outside newspaper because the eagle will not post anything that does not bash minorities. Those of us they called the minority combined we are the majority! It's is far past time to stop talking about the problems and start doing something about them!

Comment Title: Positive NeighborhoodScout.com
The person that post the negative about Bryan from this web page, here's the flip side from that site about Bryan: Bryan is also a college town, where lots of students live while attending area colleges. Because of the high percentage of people living in Bryan enrolled in college, Bryan has a number of services, amenities and opportunities geared towards the needs and activities of students. In terms of college education, Bryan is substantially better educated than the typical community in the nation, which has 14.96% of the adults holding a bachelor's degree or graduate degree: 25.97% of adults in Bryan have a college degree. Bryan is an extremely ethnically-diverse city. The people who call Bryan home come from a variety of different races and ancestries. The most prevalent race in Bryan is White, followed by African-American. Bryan also has a sizeable Hispanic population (people of Hispanic origin can be of any race). People of Hispanic or Latino origin account for 27.85% of the city's residents. Bryan is a larger medium-sized city located in the state of Texas. With a population of 66,069 people and 15 constituent neighborhoods, Bryan is the 36th largest community in Texas.

Where was the justice here? I am sure that the emotional and physical damage to this woman was an ongoing ordeal while this piece of dirt was walking and driving around without a second thought. Why did it take so long to locate this man? Bryan is scarily and rapidly becoming a ghetto. Wake up and smell the java people. Sure CS has the stupid college students but any college town has them. Bryan is full of punks who can't hack it in Houston so they just catch out to Bryan home of the MIGHTY MIGHTY CATCHOUTS!!!!

Posted by: "For Bryan, we found that the violent crime rate is one of the highest in the nation",--NeighborhoodScout.com On: Wednesday, June 24, 2009 8:03 AM

Comment Title: One of the highest crime rates in America.---BRYAN
"With a crime rate of 76 per one thousand residents, Bryan has one of the highest crime rates in America compared to all communities of all sizes - from the smallest towns to the very largest cities. One's chance of becoming a victim of either violent or property crime here is one in 13. Within Texas, more than 90% of the communities have a lower crime rate than Bryan. Separately, it is always interesting and important to compare a city's crime rate with those of similarly sized communities - a fair comparison as larger cities tend to have more crime. NeighborhoodScout has done just that. With a population of 66,069, Bryan has a combined rate of violent and property crime that is very high compared to other places of similar population size. Regardless of whether Bryan does well or poorly compared to all other cities and towns in the US of all sizes, compared to places with a similar population, it fares badly. Few other communities of this size have a crime rate as high as Bryan. The crime data that NeighborhoodScout used for this analysis are the seven offenses from the uniform crime reports, collected by the FBI from 17,000 local law enforcement agencies, and include both violent and property crimes, combined. Now let us turn to take a look at how Bryan does for violent crimes specifically, and then how it does for property crimes. This is important because the overall crime rate can be further illuminated by understanding if violent crime or property crimes (or both) are the major contributors to the general rate of crime in Bryan. For Bryan, we found that the violent crime rate is one of the highest in the nation, across communities of all sizes (both large and small). Violent offenses tracked included forcible rape, murder and non-negligent manslaughter, armed robbery, and aggravated assault, including assault with a deadly weapon. According to NeighborhoodScout's analysis of FBI reported crime data, your chance of becoming a victim of one of these crimes in Bryan is one in 94. In addition, NeighborhoodScout found that a lot of the crime that takes place in Bryan is property crime. Property crimes that are tracked for this analysis are burglary, larceny over fifty dollars, motor vehicle theft, and arson. In Bryan, your chance of becoming a victim of a property crime is one in 15, which is a rate of 66 per one thousand population. "---- NeighborhoodScout.com
