A 38-year-old College Station man accused of having child pornography and fleeing the area after police searched his home was arrested Tuesday in Pecos, police said.
College Station police said they received a tip May 13 about child pornography at Gregg Baird's home in the 2000 block of Ravenstone, and detectives on Monday obtained an arrest warrant for Baird charging him with seven counts of possession of child pornography.
College Station police said an individual housesitting for Baird called them to report there was child pornography on his computer. Police said they searched his home while he was out of town May 13, and expected him to return Sunday. They said he left the area after he learned police had searched his home.
The Texas Department of Public Safety stopped Baird at 8:30 a.m. in Pecos and arrested him, said College Station Lt. Donnie Andreski. He was taken to the Brewster County Sheriff's Office and will be transported to the Brazos County Sheriff's Office.
Baird serves as vice president of the Aggieland Credit Union. On Tuesday the Greater Texas Federal and Aggieland Credit Union issued a news release stating officials there were "shocked" at the charges against Baird.
"Gregg has been an upstanding credit union representative for almost 11 years," the news release states. "He has done an excellent job and has given the credit union no reason to question his character."
