A 40-year-old College Station woman remained jailed Tuesday and faced felony charges after police said she used a friend's bank account information to pay her phone bill.
Andrea Dennise Bradley was arrested Oct. 15 on charges of criminal mischief between $1,500 and $20,000. She was also held on outstanding warrants for failure to serve jail time for a charge of theft from $50 to $500 and failure to appear in court for a theft-by-check charge. A charge of fraudulent use or possession of identifying information was added Monday, along with jail time to go toward money she owes for the theft-by-check charge, according to records at the Brazos County Jail.
On Oct. 6, police said a woman reported that after she checked her bank statement, she noticed Bradley used her bank account information to pay Bradley's phone bill without authorization. She told police she gave Bradley a ride Oct. 1 and left Bradley alone in the vehicle, during which time she believes Bradley wrote down her bank account information from her checks.
The woman said she confronted Bradley about the charge, then called the phone company, where an employee said the company was contacted from Bradley's phone to pay for Bradley's phone bill, police said.
Bradley told police she and her friend had made an agreement where she gave her friend $20 in exchange for $40 worth of food bought with food stamps, and that her friend also agreed to pay Bradley's approximately $60 phone bill in exchange for food stamps, according to a police report. Her friend said she made the agreement to pay for food, but did not make an agreement to pay Bradley's phone bill, according to the report.
The criminal mischief and fraudulent use or possession of identifying information charges are state jail felony punishable by up to two years in jail and a fine up to $10,000.
Bail was set at $15,500.
