A Houston couple accused of hitting a 74-year-old Washington County man with a bat and stealing his cell phone remained in jail Tuesday.
Jose Gorgonio and Cindy Ocampo were arrested Monday on charges of aggravated robbery, police officials said. Two children, ages 2 and 4, were in the vehicle with them, officials said.
Officials said a ranch owner saw a truck and trailer on his property and went to investigate. When he pulled up in his vehicle, he saw the couple loading items from behind a building into the trailer, officials said.
When the man attempted to call police, the couple struck him with a bat, took his phone and drove off, authorities said.
The man shot at the couple's vehicle as they left and was able to get the license plate number, officials said. The pair were arrested in Waller County.
Aggravated robbery is a first-degree felony punishable by up to life in prison or a term from five to 99 years and a fine of up to $10,000.
