Man dies after being trapped under tractor in Leon County, police say

A 71-year-old man died late Tuesday after his tractor rolled on top of him in Leona, officials said.

Bob Ferguson was on his farm tractor on his property on Private Road 4055 when it rolled over around 6 p.m. and trapped him underneath, Leon County Sheriff Jerry Wakefield said. His wife found him an hour or two later, Wakefield said.

Ferguson died at the scene, Wakefield said. Firefighters, emergency medical personnel and a Leon County deputy responded, he said. A wrecker was used to pull the tractor up, he said.

“It looked like he was trying to put out some kind of seed on a tank dam,” Wakefield said, adding that the tractor might have been at too steep an angle or the ground was wet.

Wakefield said authorities planned to return to the scene Wednesday to investigate the cause of the rollover.
