Man steals meat from Bryan store, police say

A 56-year-old man was in jail Wednesday after police said he was caught placing packages of meat in his pants and exiting a Bryan store without paying.

Robert Lee Walker of Clay was arrested Tuesday for theft of less than $50 with a previous conviction.

A loss prevention officer at Wal-Mart at 2200 Briarcrest Drive reported he saw Walker place packages of meat in his pants and walk toward an exit without paying, according to a police report. When he asked Walker to stop, he ran out and tried to get in his vehicle, but the loss-prevention officer and an off-duty Bryan officer shopping at the store detained him, the report states.

He stole three packages of meat worth about $33, according to the report.

Walker was in jail Wednesday in lieu of $2,000 bail. He was convicted of theft of $50 to $500 by a Bryan court in 2008, according to the police report. Jail records show he was also arrested for robbery in Bryan in February.

Because of his prior theft conviction, Walker's charge is a Class B misdemeanor punishable by up to 180 days in jail and a fine up to $2,000.

Number 1, for all you idiots that say NBA blah blah blah, the story says he is from Clay, not Bryan. Number 2, to the person who types in CAPS, so you can honestly say that you do not shop or have ever gone into the "spaceship" known as Wal Mart,Number 3,Streets to avoid in the Emerald City, Cherry, Louise, Tauber, Cooner, Richards, Manuel, Sterling, Pine Ridge, and many others. You see, you have the same drug selling crack using prostitues that Bryan has. You only think that you live in a perfect city. I travel your city in the line of work that I do. I know what goes on in the towns, you just wish you knew. So shut up big mouths you have just as much filth and crime as Bryan.

You are whats wrong with this country! This ideology of entitlement that you expressed is exactly why we are in this mess. How can anyone think that it is okay for a man to steal period. If you are starving, then there are places to get food. I guess if he was tired, he should be able to go int your house and tale a nap in your be? If he is bored why don't we just let him take tv and dvd player? Where does it stop? Maybe if he had taken his lazy ass to labor ready and worked for a day he could have bought some food. YOUR STUPIDITY IS A RESULT OF SOCIALISM AT ITS FINEST!

What is wrong, is people like you. Ignorant people who pay no attention to what is really going on around them and are only concerned with what they can get for "free" I didn't vote for Bush, Kerry, McCain or Obama but I do actually pay attention to the news and speak with people in a position to understand what I am being spoon fed. Local bankers have complained for years that their access to money to lend (to quality applicants) was dependent on offering sub-prime loans to people who would not otherwise qualify, so they originated the loans and sold them off. If you think you can figure out how to cut and paste, paste this into your browser and see what really happened. http://www.wikio.com/video/461231 Oh one last thing. Barney Franks boy lover received millions in bonuses for fleecing hard working Americans while he was working at FM and FM.

Comment Title: Disclaimer in neighborhoodscout.com
Oh, just a little disclaimer from your oft-cited neighborhoodscout.com............. Zip codes were developed by the Postal Service for the purpose of delivering mail, but were never intended to define coherent neighborhoods. In addition, Zip Codes can have as many as 10 distinctly different census tracts contained within them. When distinct census tracts are blended together in a single Zip Code, the data reflects their average conditions and often gives a false sense of the area. The result is that potentially great matching neighborhoods can be missed, and erroneous matches can also be produced and delivered to you................. Aside from that is the fact that it is old information. Find something new to spout.

Posted by: more than 90% of the communities have a lower crime rate than Bryan. Separately--NeighborhoodScout.com On: Wednesday, July 01, 2009 6:49 PM

Comment Title:
With a crime rate of 76 per one thousand residents, Bryan has one of the highest crime rates in America compared to all communities of all sizes - from the smallest towns to the very largest cities. One's chance of becoming a victim of either violent or property crime here is one in 13. Within Texas, more than 90% of the communities have a lower crime rate than Bryan. Separately, it is always interesting and important to compare a city's crime rate with those of similarly sized communities - a fair comparison as larger cities tend to have more crime. NeighborhoodScout has done just that. With a population of 66,069, Bryan has a combined rate of violent and property crime that is very high compared to other places of similar population size. Regardless of whether Bryan does well or poorly compared to all other cities and towns in the US of all sizes, compared to places with a similar population, it fares badly. Few other communities of this size have a crime rate as high as Bryan. The crime data that NeighborhoodScout used for this analysis are the seven offenses from the uniform crime reports, collected by the FBI from 17,000 local law enforcement agencies, and include both violent and property crimes, combined. Now let us turn to take a look at how Bryan does for violent crimes specifically, and then how it does for property crimes. This is important because the overall crime rate can be further illuminated by understanding if violent crime or property crimes (or both) are the major contributors to the general rate of crime in Bryan. For Bryan, we found that the violent crime rate is one of the highest in the nation, across communities of all sizes (both large and small). Violent offenses tracked included forcible rape, murder and non-negligent manslaughter, armed robbery, and aggravated assault, including assault with a deadly weapon. According to NeighborhoodScout's analysis of FBI reported crime data, your chance of becoming a victim of one of these crimes in Bryan is one in 94. In addition, NeighborhoodScout found that a lot of the crime that takes place in Bryan is property crime. Property crimes that are tracked for this analysis are burglary, larceny over fifty dollars, motor vehicle theft, and arson. In Bryan, your chance of becoming a victim of a property crime is one in 15, which is a rate of 66 per one thousand population. "---- NeighborhoodScout.com

There are sufficient 'social/welfare programs out there - which those of us who pay taxes already subsidize these people who either cannot work or refuse to work......people with the Lone Star Card who shop where I do, have things in their cart I cannot afford, because my now invested funds where I have saved and done without so I could hopefully live independent of the damn government, are taxed to the hilt, as well as when I earned that money to invest.....double taxed......there is just too much giveaway stuff out there, that no one HAS to resort to stealing from a grocery.....besides, stealing MEAT is not the best choice if he is really hungry......if this guy goes to jail, he will also eat better than I do......government mandates their diet.....and all the other perks that come with being a prisoner...... I HAVE "LISTENED UP" AND OUR SOCIAL PROGRAMS ARE BREAKING THE REST OF US, AND AM ALMOST 70, AND EVEN MY SOCIAL SECURITY IS TAXED --- SO I PAY THAT BEFORE I EVER RECEIVE WHAT I PAID INTO ALL MY WORKING LIFE.....WHAT A DEAL IT IS TO WANT MY MONEY TO GO TO THOSE WHO ARE LEECHES ON THE GOVERNMENT FOR THEIR CAREER!! Someone who steals from a grocery or any store actually cause those of us who pay, to have to pay more for the losses of those businesses......this guy has a 'criminal history' so he is obviously not trying to improve his situation. I live 120 miles from College Station/Bryan, so I have no biased opinion as to what city any criminal calls home.

How would you like it if you ended up that exact same way tomorrow? Wouldn't you want someone to help you? Of would you want people to talk about you the way you have just presented yourself on these comment boards? It is very sad the way people treat eachother.
