A 33-year-old man faces a felony drug charge after police said he attempted to swallow a plastic baggie containing marijuana and cocaine while in a patrol car.
Sherrond Lakeith Cole of Caldwell was arrested Tuesday on charges of possession of less than a gram of a controlled substance and possession of less than two ounces of marijuana.
A constable said in a police report that he pulled Cole over around 9:30 a.m. on F.M. 60 in Brazos County near the Burleson County line after noticing a dark window tint, and smelled marijuana. He did not find any drugs during a search of Cole's vehicle, but arrested him on an outstanding warrant for owing a fine related to an assault charge, according to a police report.
The constable said he stopped after smelling marijuana in his patrol car and seeing Cole trying to swallow drugs. When he pulled over, Cole was trying to spit out a plastic baggie with cocaine and marijuana in it, according to a police report.
Cole was taken to St. Joseph Regional Health Center where he was checked for drug poisoning, according to a police report. He was also cited for unauthorized window tint.
The cocaine charge is a state jail felony punishable by up to two years in jail and a fine up to $10,000. The marijuana charge is a Class B misdemeanor punishable by up to 180 days in jail and a fine up to $2,000.
Cole remained jailed Wednesday in lieu of $10,508 bail.
