Bryan police said they arrested a 20-year-old man Wednesday after witnesses reported seeing him burglarize a home and vehicle.
Frank Antonie Bell of Bryan was charged with burglary of a habitation and burglary of a vehicle.
Police said a woman reported at about 12:40 p.m. that a man was attempting to burglarize her apartment in the 3100 block of Woodville Road. She told police she heard a loud crash from the back of her home, then saw the man entering her apartment through a broken sliding glass door. She said she knew the man because he used to live next to her, and he ran away without taking anything when she yelled his name, according to a police report.
The woman gave police a description of Bell and his clothing, and about five minutes after she called police, a man called authorities to report that he saw a man matching the same description burglarize his neighbor's vehicle.
The man told police he saw a burglar rifling through the vehicle in the 3000 block of Allen Circle, but the burglar left without taking anything after he confronted him, according to the report.
Officers said they found Bell walking in a school parking lot at 4619 Northwood Drive, and both witnesses positively identified him as the man involved in both burglaries.
Burglary of a habitation is a second-degree felony punishable by up to 20 years in prison and a fine up to $10,000. Burglary of a vehicle is a Class A misdemeanor punishable by up to a year behind bars and a fine up to $4,000.
Bell remained jailed on $19,000 bail Thursday.
