A man wanted by local authorities on charges of possession of child pornography was arrested Tuesday after a traffic stop in West Texas.
College Station resident Gregg Baird, 38, was in the Brewster County Jail in Alpine on Tuesday evening. His bail had been raised from $140,000 to $280,000.
Officials said Baird was speeding when an officer stopped him about 8:30 a.m. The officer said Baird was bleeding from both wrists.
"He had some self-inflicted cuts, so he was treated at a local hospital before being transported to the jail," said Lt. Donnie Andreski with the College Station Police Department.
Andreski said someone was attempting to post Baird's bail before it was increased by a magistrate.
Authorities said they obtained a search warrant for Baird's Ravenstone Court home after someone housesitting for him told authorities there was child pornography on his computer.
They searched his residence May 13, knowing he was out of town. Police expected him to be back Sunday evening but said Baird left the area after he learned that police had searched his residence.
Baird is vice president of Aggieland Credit Union.
On Tuesday, the credit union said Baird had been an upstanding employee for nearly 11 years.
"He has done an excellent job and has given the credit union no reason to question his character," officials said in a prepared statement.
Police did not serve a search warrant at the credit union, saying there was no probable cause to do so.
Gregg also serves as club administrator for the Aggieland Rotary Club. Chris Hunter, the organization's president, said club members were "shocked and saddened to learn of the allegations brought against him."
"We can only hope the authorities find out the truth of the matter as soon as possible," he said in a statement. "Our thoughts and prayers are with Gregg and his family through this trying time."
Brazos County Assistant District Attorney Danny Smith said it usually takes about three months for a case to be presented to a grand jury.
"He'll more than likely be brought back here on the warrant," Smith said. "From there, he can bond out or wait in jail pending indictment and trial."
