Police on Thursday were investigating a traffic accident that killed an 84-year-old woman near Independence on Wednesday.
Dorceil Kramer McEachern of Brenham died at the scene, five miles south of Independence in Washington County, a Texas Department of Public Safety official said.
McEachern was driving her 1993 Ford Taurus westbound on F.M. 2621 at 8:42 a.m. when she failed to yield the right-of-way at the intersection with F.M. 50 and pulled in front of a 2003 Ford F-150 pickup headed north on F.M. 50, according to the DPS.
Julia Anita Ramirez, 28, of Brenham was driving the pickup. She was taken to Trinity Medical Center in Brenham, where she was reported to be in stable condition with minor cuts and bruises.
Both drivers were wearing their seatbelts, according to the DPS. Trooper Ross Bates investigated the wreck.
