Bryan and College Station school officials said they won't be affected by cuts to funding for school bus seat belts.
A total of $10 million was supposed to be allotted to a program requiring three-point seat belts be installed on school buses purchased after Sept. 1 by Texas schools, but officials announced in August that they would be slashing the promised amount by $6 million.
College Station school officials said they recently finalized the purchase of 28 new buses, but that was before the law was supposed to take effect. As a result, they were not required to install shoulder-strap seat belts.
Officials with the Bryan school district said they don't have any plans to purchase new buses this year.
