BIG 12 ROUNDUP: Dunn leads Baylor past Texas Tech

WACO -- LaceDarius Dunn scored 20 points, including 11 in a row in the second-half spurt that put No. 23 Baylor ahead for good in a 73-61 victory over Texas Tech in the Big 12 opener for both teams.

Dunn's game-deciding spurt began with just over 12 minutes left when he hit a 3-pointer. After a Tech free throw tied the game at 45, Dunn hit another 3-pointer with 11:11 left and the Bears (13-2) led for good.

Kevin Rogers had 14 points and 14 rebounds, while Curtis Jerrells had 13 points for Baylor.

Alan Voskuil led Texas Tech (10-6), with 14 points.

No. 6 Oklahoma 61, Kansas St. 53: MANHATTAN, Kan. -- Blake Griffin had 29 points and 15 rebounds in a rare game against single coverage, helping Oklahoma open Big 12 Conference play with a win.

Oklahoma (15-1) was 9-7 and won just three road games in the Big 12 last season. The expectations were a bit higher this season, particularly after the Sooners' best nonconference record since 1987-88, when they went 15-1 on the way to the national championship game.

Denis Clemente led Kansas State (11-4) with 18 points and Fred Brown added 12.

No. 7 Texas 75, Iowa State 67: AUSTIN -- Damion James scored 19 points to lead Texas to a win over Iowa State in the Big 12 opener for both teams.

Gary Johnson added 17 points and had nine rebounds for the Longhorns (12-3), who are undefeated in 11 conference home openers under coach Rick Barnes. The Longhorns also have won a school record 13 in a row at home in the Big 12, dating back to 2007 when Kevin Durant was a Texas freshman.

Craig Brackins scored 20 and grabbed 13 rebounds to lead Iowa State (11-5), which lost it's ninth straight road game in league play.

Nebraska 56, Missouri 51: LINCOLN, Neb. -- Sek Henry's layup with 1:12 left put Nebraska back in front after it had squandered an 18-point lead.

Ade Dagunduro scored a career-high 20 points for the Huskers (11-3, 1-0 Big 12), but some of his best work was on the defensive end against DeMarre Carroll. Missouri's season scoring leader was held without a point until the middle of the second half and finished with seven, almost 10 under his average.

Missouri's other big scoring threat, Leo Lyons, also went scoreless in the first half but ended up leading the Tigers (13-3, 0-1) with 12.

Nebraska capitalized on 12 Missouri turnovers to lead 32-18 at half. But the Tigers cleaned up their play after the break, and J.T. Tiller tied it 51-all with a jumper from the right wing with 1:41 left.

The Huskers regained the lead on Henry's drive and didn't let Missouri score again.

Marcus Denmon missed a 3-pointer that would have tied it with 2.4 seconds.

*

No. 8 Michigan St. 75, Kansas 62: EAST LANSING, Mich. -- Kalin Lucas continued his offensive surge, scoring 22 points to lead the eighth-ranked Spartans over the defending national champions.

Michigan State (13-2) has won nine straight since getting routed by North Carolina, 27 in a row at the Breslin Center over nearly two years and 39 consecutive against nonconference opponents at home since losing to Duke in 2003.

Sherron Collins and Cole Aldrich, the only current players who had an impact on last season's national championship team, scored 25 and 14 points respectively for the Jayhawks (11-4) and reserve Tyrel Reed added 10 points.

Michigan State's Raymar Morgan had 13 points and eight rebounds and Travis Walton scored 11.

Women

Texas Tech 65, No. 8 Texas 62: LUBBOCK -- Dominic Seals hit a short jumper with 7.4 seconds remaining to extend the Longhorns road-loss streak to three games.

Jordan Murphree led the Lady Raiders (10-4, 1-0 Big 12), who won their fifth straight game, with 19 points.

Texas Tech let a 13-point lead dwindle in the final 6:47 of the game and Texas' Kathleen Nash tied it at 62 on two free throws with 16.4 seconds left.

Seals scored from inside the lane after a pass from Timila Martin.

As Texas brought the ball up, Nash was called for charging against Murphree with 2.4 seconds remaining. It was the second loss this week for the Longhorns (12-3, 0-1), who likely will drop out of the Top 10.

Iowa State 63, No. 21 Oklahoma State 55: AMES, Iowa -- Nicky Wieben scored 23 points and Iowa State closed the game with a 15-5 run to beat Oklahoma State.

Amanda Nisleit added 12 points and 15 rebounds for the Cyclones, who rallied from an 11-point halftime deficit to snap Oklahoma State's eight-game winning streak.

Iowa State's Heather Ezell made a 3-pointer with 1:55 left to put the Cyclones ahead 53-50. Ezell drew an intentional foul on her next shot, and Oklahoma State coach Kurt Budke was hit with a technical with 1:24 to go for arguing the call.

The Cyclones (13-2, 1-0 Big 12) hit eight free throws in the next 15 seconds, pushing their lead to 61-50.

Andrea Riley had 32 points to lead the Cowgirls (11-3, 0-1).

*

No. 4 Oklahoma 77, Nebraska 56: LINCOLN, Neb. -- Courtney Paris had 18 points and 20 rebounds and Oklahoma opened Big 12 play with a victory over Nebraska.

The Sooners (12-2, 1-0 Big 12) won their eighth straight and beat Nebraska (9-5, 0-1) for the 10th time in 11 meetings.

Oklahoma was never threatened after scoring the first 15 points on its way to a 44-23 advantage.

Dominique Kelley led Nebraska with 12 points, all in the second half.

*

No. 6 Baylor 63, Colorado 50: BOULDER, Colo. -- Danielle Wilson scored 16 points to lead Baylor to a victory over Colorado.

Rachel Allison added 15 points for Baylor (13-1, 1-0 Big 12), which extended its winning streak to seven games. Jessica Morrow had 14 points as the Bears defeated Colorado for the fifth consecutive time.

Brittany Spears led Colorado (8-5, 0-1) with 14 points. Britney Blythe added 12 for the Buffaloes, who had their five-game winning streak snapped.

*

No. 20 Kansas State 72, Kansas 39: MANHATTAN, Kan. -- Shalee Lehning had 14 points and 10 assists to help Kansas State open defense of its Big 12 title with a victory over rival Kansas.

Kansas State (14-0) is off to the best start in school history and has matched its second-longest winning streak, three behind the record set in 1981-82. The Wildcats have won nine straight home games.

Kansas (11-3) had won four straight, but struggled mightily against the nation's best scoring defense, scoring a season-low in points.
