CB Glenn signs ceremonial contract with Texans to retire

HOUSTON -- Cornerback Aaron Glenn signed a one-day contract with the Houston Texans on Wednesday with the intent of retiring with his hometown team.

Glenn played for five NFL teams between 1994-2008, including three seasons with the Texans (2002-04). Glenn is a native of nearby Humble and was taken by the Texans in the 2002 expansion draft.

"This brings closure, closure to a 15-year career," Glenn said. "Playing football is my life. To this day, it's still my life. My wife will tell you, it's hard for me to sit at home and watch a game because I get excited. Sometimes I want to take my son out and play 1-on-1 with him sometimes. But, it's a good thing. This is the right thing to do."

The 38-year-old Glenn earned trips to the Pro Bowl in 1997 and 1998, when he played for the New York Jets, and in 2002, his first season in Houston.

"Aaron was one of our first players, and during those early days we were really concerned about bringing the right kind of people in and people that would add the right mix to our team," Texans owner Bob McNair said. "We needed some players who were veterans to provide some leadership, and we were fortunate that we were able to make a deal with the Jets that we could get Aaron down here."

Glenn spent his first eight pro seasons with the Jets, who selected him with the 12th overall pick in the 1994 draft. Glenn played for Dallas in 2005 and '06, Jacksonville in 2007 and New Orleans in 2008. He finished his NFL career with 41 career interceptions.
