A&M receives two pledges: The Texas A&M football team received oral commitments from Beaumont West Brook running back Christine Michael and Clear Lake offensive lineman Stephen Barrera following its Junior Day last weekend.
The 5-foot-11, 195-pound Michael, who is a four-star recruit by Scout.com, surprised some recruiting experts by committing early.
Michael told The Dallas Morning News on Sunday night that he felt very comfortable with new A&M coach Mike Sherman.
"He'll take care of me," Michael said. "And I should get a chance to play early as a freshman."
Barrera (6-5, 275) already had a scholarship offer from LSU.
A&M now has four known commitments. Killeen offensive tackle Rhontae Scales (6-5, 299) and Klein Oak offensive tackle Clint Naron (6-6, 290) also have committed to A&M.
Verbal pledges are nonbinding. Signing day for the Class of 2009 is Feb. 4, 2009.
