FOOTBALL
Gridiron Bash coming to town: Texas A&M and MSL Sports and Entertainment announced Tuesday that Rock and Roll Hall of Fame band ZZ Top will headline Gridiron Bash on April 18, a day before the Maroon & White spring football game.
The event will take place at Kyle Field and include a live performance by ZZ Top as well as a yell practice introducing the A&M football team and new head coach Mike Sherman along with many former football legends and other fan activities.
Gridiron Bash will visit about 20 universities on that day. Other participating schools are Kansas State, Colorado, Tennessee, Army, West Virginia, Penn State, Utah, Washington, Iowa, Arizona State, Maryland, Rutgers, South Carolina, Kentucky, UTEP, Auburn, Alabama and Boston College.
Tickets for the concert and Maroon and White game combined are $40 and go on sale Wednesday at 8 a.m. Tickets can be purchased at the A&M athletic ticket office, www.gridironbash.com or www.aggieathletics.com. Student tickets are $35 when purchased at the Kyle Field ticket office.
Tickets are $5 for fans wanting to attend just the Maroon & White game, while A&M students and fans 18 and younger will be admitted free of charge. Fan activities surrounding the game include an autograph session with the new staff and players and a fireworks display after the game.
TENNIS
Time change for Saturday's A&M-Houston women's tennis match: The A&M women's tennis match Saturday against Houston has been changed to a 5 p.m. start at the Mitchell Tennis Center. The match was pushed back two hours to allow fans to attend both the tennis match and the men's basketball game against Oklahoma, which tips off at 3 p.m. at Reed Arena.
The match against Houston will be the second of the day for the women's tennis team. The Aggies open the season against Texas State at 10 a.m.
BASKETBALL
Blinn men beat Rough Riders: The Blinn College men's basketball team beat the Houston Rough Riders 99-75 on Monday. The team plays host to Navarro College at 4 p.m. Saturday in Brenham.
Rudder wins Fayetteville JV tourney: The Rudder boys basketball team won the Fayetteville JV tournament on Saturday, improving to 17-3 this season.
The Rangers beat Snook 48-41 before finishing the tournament with a 58-33 win over Brazos Christian.
Michael Jones scored 17 points against Snook, while Kyle Danford added 11. Tre Hammond had 13 and Jamie Anderson tallied 11 against Brazos Christian.
Rudder plays against Belton's JV team Tuesday.
SOFTBALL
Bryan/Rudder scrimmage Tuesday: The Bryan Vikings White/Rudder split-squad softball team will scrimmage against Caldwell's varsity team at 5 p.m. Tuesday at the BHS Complex.
The Silver team will then play Navasota's varsity team at 7.
