BASKETBALL
St. Joseph pair earn All-State honors: St. Joseph's Jeanee Thompson and Zadous Pollard were selected to the TAPPS All-State first team and invited to play in the TAPPS All-Star basketball game on June 14 in San Antonio, the TAPPS office recently announced.
Thompson also was invited to play on the USA Athletes International Team in the 2008 Northern European Basketball Series this summer.
GYMNASTICS
Bryan boys win district title: The Bryan boys gymnastics team scored 169.55 points to win the Region II District 2 championship Thursday at the Bryan gymnastics gym.
Round Rock was second at 158.1 followed by Bryan's B team (78.4), Alvin (51.0) and A&M Consolidated (16.4).
Bryan's Isaac Rodriguez won the rings, vault, horizontal bar and all-around. Teammate Matthew Kelly took second in the all-around and first on the parallel bars, and he tied for first on the floor exercise.
Bryan's Stefan Quartemont was third in the all-around and first on the pommel horse, while Alex Reyes had three second-place finishes.
Jose Tijerina led Bryan's B team with an eighth-place finish in the all-around.
Bryan will compete at the regional championships April 9-10 at Humble Atascocita High School.
Consol girls take district crown: Abbie Thompson won the all-around competition and led the A&M Consolidated girls gymnastics team to the Region II District 2 title Thursday at the Bryan gymnastics gym. Consol scored 108.8 to edge Round Rock, which took second at 107.4.
Thompson won the vault, took second on the uneven bars and third on the balance beam and floor exercise. Consol's Elyssa Trejo also won the balance beam and floor exercise events and finished fourth in the all-around.
Consol's Jesse Drummond took third on the vault and sixth in the all-around, while teammate Kathryn Roussel placed fourth in the floor and eighth in the all-around. Consol's Lena Serhan placed sixth on the balance beam and the uneven bars.
