MLB ROUNDUP: Bush shuts down Astros

HOUSTON -- Dave Bush pitched six solid innings to remain unbeaten and Trevor Hoffman earned his 10th save, leading the Milwaukee Brewers over the Houston Astros 4-2 on Tuesday night for their seventh straight win.

J.J. Hardy drove in two runs for Milwaukee and Prince Fielder had an RBI and two runs scored. Bush (3-0) allowed two runs and seven hits for the NL Central leaders, who have won 13 of 15.

Hoffman set down the Astros in order in the ninth to improve to 10 for 10 on save chances with his new team.

Kaz Matsui stole home while Houston teammate Michael Bourn was in a rundown, and relief pitcher Russ Ortiz hit an unlikely homer for the Astros.

Ortiz (2-2) gave up two runs in the sixth after replacing Mike Hampton, who left after four innings with a cut on his left thumb.

Fielder tied it with an RBI double in the fourth after Ryan Braun led off with a walk against Hampton.

Hardy's RBI single scored Fielder to give Milwaukee a 2-1 lead.

Hampton left after throwing a season-low 60 pitches. Ortiz retired the side, then led off the Astros fifth with a tying homer to left, the seventh of his career.

Tigers 4, Rangers 0: DETROIT -- Dontrelle Willis earned his first victory with the Tigers, allowing one hit while working into the seventh inning in a win against the Rangers.

Willis (1-0), the former All-Star who began the season on the disabled list because of an anxiety disorder, struck out five in 61/3 innings in his second start since coming off the DL.

The victory extended Detroit's winning streak to four games and halted the Rangers' seven-game winning streak.

Brandon McCarthy (3-2) allowed all four runs and nine hits in the seven innings for Texas.

Jeff Larish and Gerald Laird had sacrifice flies for the Tigers and Miguel Cabrera added an RBI double in the seventh.

Phillies 4, Reds 3: CINCINNATI -- Philadelphia's Ryan Howard hit a solo homer, and left-hander Cole Hamels stayed unbeaten against Cincinnati.

Diamondbacks 5, Marlins 3: MIAMI -- Mark Reynolds homered leading off a five-run seventh and Jon Garland pitched six strong innings for the Diamondbacks.

Braves 8, Rockies 1: ATLANTA -- Jair Jurrjens pitched seven strong innings and Casey Kotchman had three hits and three RBIs to lift the Braves.

Cardinals 3, Cubs 0: ST. LOUIS -- Joel Pineiro threw a three-hitter for his first shutout in six seasons and first complete game since 2006 as the Cardinals snapped a three-game slide.

Pirates 8, Nationals 5, 10 innings: WASHINGTON -- Adam LaRoche had a two-run double in the 10th inning, and the Pirates won their fourth straight.

Padres 2, Giants 1: SAN DIEGO -- Barry Zito's first complete game since 2003 was spoiled by home runs by Scott Hairston and Nick Hundley, which carried the Padres to a win over the Giants.

Dodgers 5, Mets 3: LOS ANGELES -- Casey Blake hit a go-ahead, three-run homer off John Maine in the sixth inning.

Yankees 9, Orioles 1: NEW YORK -- Alex Rodriguez and Mark Teixeira launched more long home runs, CC Sabathia dominated.

Red Sox 2, Blue Jays 1: BOSTON -- David Ortiz went hitless in his return to the Boston lineup, but Tim Wakefield pitched the Red Sox past the AL East-leading Blue Jays.

Athletics 4, Rays 1, 11 innings: ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. -- Matt Holliday hit a three-run homer during a four-run 11th inning to help the Athletics beat the Rays.

Royals 6, Indians 5: KANSAS CITY, Mo. -- Mike Jacobs and Mark Teahen hit back-to-back home runs off Indians closer Kerry Wood and Willie Bloomquist capped the four-run ninth inning with a game-winning sacrifice fly.

White Sox 6, Twins 2: CHICAGO -- Paul Konerko hit a two-run homer and Mark Buehrle pitched seven solid innings to help the White Sox snap a five-game skid.

Angels 6, Mariners 5: SEATTLE -- Bobby Abreu had three hits and a pair of RBI to help Matt Palmer win his fifth straight start.
