Parker won't need surgery on broken hand
SAN ANTONIO -- Tony Parker won't need surgery on his broken right hand that will likely force the San Antonio Spurs guard to miss the rest of the regular season.
Tests performed Monday confirmed that Parker fractured the fourth metacarpal in his shooting hand Saturday in a victory at Memphis. He's expected to miss about six weeks.
That has the Spurs bracing to be without their second-leading scorer until the playoffs. Parker was averaging 16.5 points, but has been hobbled all season by a slew of injuries.
Texans bring Walter, Turk back with new deals
HOUSTON -- Receiver Kevin Walter and punter Matt Turk, both unrestricted free agents, have been re-signed by the Houston Texans.
Walter started 14 games opposite Andre Johnson last season and had 53 receptions for 611 yards and two touchdowns. He joined the Texans in 2006 and has 195 receptions for 2,470 yards and 15 touchdowns since arriving in Houston.
Turk averaged a franchise-best 42.8 yards per punt last season and landed 24 punts inside the opponents' 20-yard line. The 41-year-old spent the last three seasons with the Texans after a year in St. Louis.
Terms were not disclosed Monday.
UConn women set record with 71st straight win
HARTFORD, Conn. -- Tina Charles, Maya Moore and the latest Connecticut Huskies dynasty now has its own place in the record books.
Charles (pictured) scored 16 points and Moore added 11 to help top-ranked Connecticut (32-0) win an NCAA record 71st straight game -- a 59-44 victory over No. 6 Notre Dame on Monday night in the semifinals of the Big East tournament.
UConn surpassed its own mark set from Nov. 9, 2001, to March 11, 2003. Unlike that amazing run, which ended in a loss in the Big East conference tournament semifinals to Villanova, this Huskies team has thoroughly dominated its opponents in every game, winning each by double digits.
