PEARLAND -- Texas freshman defensive back Marcus Davis is out of jail on bond after he was charged with suspicion of driving while intoxicated and possession of a controlled substance.

Pearland police Lt. Onesimo Lopez said Sunday that Davis was arrested early Saturday. Police received a call at 6:48 a.m. reporting a possible drunk driver behind a blue SUV riding on the rim of at least one blown tire.

Officers arrested the 18-year-old Davis, from League City, after an investigation. His bond was set at $1,500 for the DWI charge and $2,000 for the drug charge.

A person who answered the telephone Sunday evening at a number listed for Davis said he wasn't available.

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. -- Bobby Bowden plans to meet with Florida State president T.K. Wetherell later in the week to discuss his future at the school.

Bowden said Sunday that he wants to coach another year, which would be his 35th in Tallahassee, but he's not sure whether he'll be given the chance.

"I've got bosses," Bowden said. "I've got people who would have to approve it."

Bowden has 388 career wins, second only to Penn State's Joe Paterno among major college coaches, and has continued to coach with the hope of getting Florida State back among the nation's elite programs.

MEMPHIS, Tenn. -- LSU assistant coach Larry Porter, who's built a reputation for being one of the nation's best recruiters, will try to rebuild Memphis.

Porter replaces Tommy West, who was fired Nov. 9 after nine seasons. West coached the Tigers (2-10) the rest of the season, which ended with a 33-30 overtime loss at Tulsa on Friday.

Porter ranks sixth in career rushing at Memphis with 2,194 yards, and scored 20 touchdowns from 1990-93. He later coached at Tennessee-Martin, Arkansas State and Oklahoma State before joining Les Miles at LSU, where Porter has coached running backs since 2005.

HUNTINGTON, W. Va. -- Marshall football coach Mark Snyder resigned Sunday, a day after the Thundering Herd lost 52-21 to UTEP to finish the regular season at 6-6.

Snyder, who went 21-37 in five seasons, said in a news release that he made the decision after meeting earlier in the day with athletic director Mike Hamrick.

COLLEGE BASKETBALL

ORLANDO, Fla. -- Tweety Carter had 27 points, including connecting on six 3-pointers, as Baylor beat Xavier 69-64 on Sunday.

Carter made his sixth 3-pointer of the game to put Baylor up 61-57 with 33.4 seconds to play at the Old Spice Classic. Baylor finished 11-for-23 from beyond the arc (47.8 percent), while Xavier hit just 7 of 18 3-pointers in the game (38.9 percent).

The Bears (6-1) secured the win by going 8-for-8 from the free throw line during the final 27 seconds.

Baylor also got 15 points and nine rebounds from Ekpe Udoh.

HOUSTON -- Dexter Pittman scored 21 points and No. 3 Texas held off a Rice rally before pulling away for a 77-59 victory Sunday.

Pittman was 7-of-8 shooting from the field for the Longhorns (5-0). Suleiman Braimoh scored 12 points to lead the Owls (4-2).

Texas led by 17 points early in the second half before the Owls rallied to get within 59-54 with just under 7 minutes to play. But Rice couldn't stop Pittman and his 290 pounds as he dominated under the basket.

J'Covan Brown added 15 points for Texas, including two rally-killing baskets in the final minutes.

LOS ANGELES -- Ryan Anderson scored 14 points to help Nebraska edge USC 51-48 Sunday.

Eshaunte Jones scored the winning basket on a 3-pointer with 11.7 seconds left.

After USC called time with 8.4 seconds to go, Marcus Johnson air-balled a 3-point attempt from the left wing, preserving the win for the Cornhuskers (4-1).

Brandon Ubel added 10 points for Nebraska, which committed only seven turnovers in its third straight win.

Alex Stepheson led USC with 13 points and 12 rebounds. Johnson, Donte Smith and Dwight Lewis each had 10 points for USC (2-2).

FOOTBALL

CALGARY, Alberta -- Damon Duval kicked a 33-yard field goal with no time left -- after getting a second chance because of a Saskatchewan penalty -- in the Grey Cup to give the Montreal Alouettes a 28-27 victory over the Roughriders on Sunday night.

Duval missed moments earlier from 43 yards, but the Roughriders were penalized for having 13 men on the field.
