COLUMBIA, Mo. -- Suspended Missouri running back Derrick Washington was charged Monday with sexually assaulting a former tutor in her apartment over the summer.
Assistant Boone County prosecutor Andrea Hayes said that a single count of felony deviate sexual assault was filed against Washington, a senior from Raymore, Mo., and the Tigers' rushing leader the past two seasons.
Coach Gary Pinkel suspended Washington last week without disclosing details. Boone County court documents show Washington had been served with a protection order in late June and accused of sexual assault by a former Missouri tutor.
A July hearing was delayed at the woman's request and the case appeared dead after both Washington and the alleged victim failed to show up for the rescheduled hearing. But prosecutors continued to investigate and Washington's family has hired an attorney.
Washington's legal troubles didn't prevent him from being named one of four team captains in July.

DENVER -- The Western Athletic Conference is demanding a $5 million exit fee by Oct. 25 from Fresno State and Nevada, which are bolting to the Mountain West Conference.
WAC commissioner Karl Benson said the league would sue the universities if they don't pay up. He also said the league won't let the schools leave until after the 2011-12 season.
Fresno State and Nevada were informed of the WAC's hardline stance by letter on Friday. The schools announced Aug. 18 they would join the MWC. Because they didn't announce their decisions prior to a June 30 deadline required by WAC bylaws, neither school can leave for two years unless the league agrees to an early exit.
Benson said that by leaving before 2012, Fresno State and Nevada would cost each of the remaining WAC schools -- Hawaii, Idaho, Louisiana Tech, New Mexico State, San Jose State, Utah State -- $2 million or more.

CINCINNATI -- Cuban defector Aroldis Chapman will be added to the Cincinnati Reds' bullpen for their playoff push.
The Reds plan to call up the hard-throwing lefty from Triple-A Louisville before their game Tuesday night against the Milwaukee Brewers.
The NL Central leaders envision the 22-year-old Chapman as a starter later in his career. They moved him into a reliever's role at Louisville last month July because they had plenty of starters but thought his 103 mph fastball could help them out of the bullpen in Cincinnati.
Chapman signed a six-year, $30.25 million deal in January. He had mixed results as a starter in Louisville, going 5-5 with a 5.11 ERA in 13 games. He is 4-1 with a 2.40 ERA in 26 relief appearances, striking out 49 in 30 innings.
CLEVELAND -- As expected, the Chicago White Sox claimed 12-time All-Star slugger Manny Ramirez on waivers from the Los Angeles Dodgers on Monday, hoping his bat can help them make a playoff push.
Chicago is beginning a 10-game road trip to Cleveland, Boston and Detroit 4 1/2 games behind first-place Minnesota in the AL Central.
Ramirez is back in the AL after a four-year stay in Los Angeles.
He batted .311 with eight homers and 40 RBIs in 66 games with the Dodgers this season. Ramirez, who will be playing for his fourth major league team, was on the disabled list from July 20 to Aug. 20 with a right calf strain. He missed 33 games.

DALLAS -- The attorney for two Dallas Cowboys employees seriously injured in the 2009 collapse of the team's practice facility says each has received about $5 million from companies controlled by team owner Jerry Jones as legal settlements.
Attorney Frank Branson said that lawsuits filed by scout Rich Behm and special teams coach Joe DeCamillas were settled Friday.
Behm was paralyzed from the waist down and DeCamillas suffered a broken vertebrae when the steel and fabric building collapsed in a wind storm on May 2, 2009.
The two previously settled with the builder, Summit Structures of Allentown, Pa. Branson says Behm received $19.5 million and DeCamillas was paid $4.5 million.
IRVING -- Wide receiver Terrell Hudgins and tight end Scott Sicko have been released by the Dallas Cowboys.
The move was announced Monday. Both players signed with the Cowboys as free agents following the 2010 draft.
The 6-foot-4, 251-pound Sicko created an Internet stir when, after going undrafted, he said he was turning down the NFL to continue his education at New Hampshire. Sicko later ended up with the Cowboys.
Hudgins played college ball for Elon.
METAIRIE, La. -- New Orleans Saints defensive line coach Travis Jones has been suspended 30 days without pay for his admitted role in a real estate scam involving 40 people in northwestern Texas.
General manager Mickey Loomis says the suspension will begin immediately. Loomis says Jones is cooperating with the federal investigation into the scam and will take part in a program to educate others in the NFL about his experience.
In June, Jones entered a plea of conspiracy to commit mail fraud in U.S. District Court in Texas' Eastern District. Court records show Jones also signed a factual statement admitting his role in the alleged scam, which netted him about $86,000.

BUENOS AIRES, Argentina -- Former Argentine soccer star Francisco Varallo, the last surviving player from the first World Cup in 1930, died Monday. He was 100.
His death in La Plata, Argentina, was confirmed by his former Argentine club Gimnasia y Esgrima, which did not specify a cause of death.
Varallo played in the final between Uruguay and Argentina in Montevideo, Uruguay. Argentina lost 4-2.
He won national titles with Gimnasia in 1929 and with Boca in 1931, 1934 and 1935. He retired in 1940 and worked as a coach with Boca's lower-division teams and coached Gimnasia in 1957-59.
Argentina led 2-1 at halftime. After that, Varallo said the Argentines were soundly beaten.
MADRID -- Real Madrid's Cristiano Ronaldo will be out of action for around three weeks with an ankle injury, the Spanish club said Monday.
Ronaldo, 25, the world's most expensive player, suffered a badly sprained right ankle in Real's disappointing 0-0 debut draw away to Mallorca on Sunday, after being tackled early on by defender Pablo Cendros.
He played on until the end of the match, making the sprain worse.
The Portuguese winger has been plagued by problems in his right ankle for three years.
Real will send a report to the Portuguese football federation about Ronaldo's injury, in the hope that he will not be called up for Portugal's upcoming matches against Cyprus and Norway.
