BIG EVENTS

The Navasota Theatre is presenting We The People beginning Thursday and running through July 19. Showtimes are 7:30 p.m. on Thursday, Friday and Saturday and 2 p.m. on Saturday and Sunday both weeks at the Navasota Theatre, 104 W. Washington, Navasota. Tickets are $10 for adults, $8 for seniors and students, $6 for Navasota Theatre members and $5 for children. Groups of 20 or more are $7 each. Brazos Valley Troupe is presenting You're a Good Man, Charlie Brown beginning Friday at the 29th Street Studio, 3705 E. 29th St., Bryan, Town & Country Center. Showtime is 7:30 p.m. on Friday and Saturday and 3 p.m. on Sunday. The show continues July 17 at 7:30 p.m. and July 18 at 3 and 7:30 p.m. Advance tickets are $10 for adults, $9 for seniors and $8 for youth and BV Troupe members. The University Summer Performance Series continues Monday with one of the three medalists from the Van Cliburn International Piano Competition. The show begins at 7:30 p.m. at the Presidential Conference Center at Texas A&M University. On July 20, the series will present "Tin Roof Tango -- The Big Acoustic World Show." The performance will feature five musicians, more than 25 acoustic instruments, music from six continents, dance and jokes.

Brenham is hosting its "Hot Nights, Cool Tunes" Summer Concert Series beginning Saturday with Beatles tribute band Abbey Road and Eagles tribute band Already Gone. Enjoy live music around the square in historic downtown Brenham. Bring your blankets and chairs. Food and beverages will be sold. Admission and parking are free. The 2009 Navasota Blues Fest is Aug. 7-8 at the Grimes County Expo Center, 5280 F.M. 3455 in Navasota. There will be a kids area and RV hook-ups are available. Activities on Aug. 7 will run from 5 p.m. to midnight and cost $8. The event, held in memory of Mance Lipscomb, will open with a

5 to 6 p.m. showing of a Mance in concert film. The Blues Brothers will perform from 7:15 to 8:15 p.m., followed by Lorna Willhelm & A Handful of Blues from 8:30 to 9:30 p.m. Leannasaurus Rex will perform from 9:45 to 10:45 p.m., and Blackjack's Blues will close out the night from 11 p.m. to midnight. On Aug. 8, activities will run from noon to midnight and cost $17. Tickets for both days can be purchased for $20 on Aug. 7. On Aug. 8 from 10 to 11 a.m., Michael Birnbaum will have a free guitar session.
