If Roger Clinton, Eric Roberts and La Toya Jackson offer strong evidence that talent isn't always passed through the bloodline, Django Walker would be an example for the opposite argument.
The Austin-based singer-songwriter comes from royal blood. He's the son of country legend Jerry Jeff Walker (who will be in town next month for his own show at the Texas Reds Festival).
The younger Walker has been making his way in small clubs across Texas since releasing his debut album in 2002.
Like his father, who bucked country trends with his own brand of "cowjazz," Django also has a different approach. He proclaims to be a fan of "the rockier side of country," but songs such as Wake Up and Shook You Up have a bit of a laid -back Jack Johnson feel to them.
Django Walker has often appeared in Bryan and College Station clubs. He'll return at 9 p.m. Wednesday for Geoff Spahr's weekly "Hornback Humpdays" show at Alfred T. Hornback's. Admission is free.
