Dad drunk in Lake Georgetown death, son also dies

GEORGETOWN, Texas -- Toxicology results show a Georgetown man was legally drunk when he accidentally drove off a boat ramp into Lake Georgetown, killing himself and his 5-year-old son.

Witnesses the night of June 19 saw a vehicle driven by 31-year-old Scott Douglas Hughes, with his son Ethan inside, go into the lake. Police say both were dead at the scene.

A Georgetown police statement Wednesday said Hughes had a blood-alcohol level of .21, more than twice the 0.08 legal limit for driving in Texas. Police also say Hughes may have been using his cell phone and mistook the boat ramp for a road.

Georgetown is about 20 miles north of Austin.
