EL PASO -- A school official pleaded guilty Wednesday in an ongoing federal corruption scandal, prosecutors said.
Carlos Villa Cordova, an El Paso Independent School District trustee, pleaded guilty to charges of conspiracy to commit mail fraud, wire fraud and the deprivation of honest services. According to prosecutors, Cordova admitted trading votes for cash and other bribes.
The case became public this year when federal agents raided the offices of County Judge Anthony Cobos, county commissioners Luis Sarinana and Miguel Teran, and Arturo "Tury" Duran, a member of a local hospital board of managers.
