Houston driver indicted over deaths of 5 children

HOUSTON -- A Houston driver has been indicted on intoxication manslaughter charges over the deaths of five children when his car went into a flooded ditch.

Chanton Jenkins remained jailed Thursday in Houston over the April 18 accident. Authorities have said Jenkins was talking on a cell phone at the time of the crash.

Jenkins was father of three of the five children. The victims ranged in age from 1 to 11.

Bail is $500,000 for the 32-year-old Jenkins. Electronic jail records, which indicate he faces an Aug. 12 court date, had no information on an attorney for Jenkins.
