Lubbock County sheriff resigns for state board

LUBBOCK, Texas -- Gov. Rick Perry has appointed the sheriff of Lubbock County to the Texas Board of Pardons and Paroles.

Sheriff David Gutierrez announced Monday that he was resigning, effective Sept. 12 to accept the six-year appointment that begins Sept. 14.

The board makes recommendations on clemency and parole decisions for state prison inmates.
