State trooper shot during east Texas warrant sweep

MINEOLA, Texas -- A trooper with the Texas Department of Public Safety is hospitalized after a shooting during an east Texas warrant sweep.

The DPS identifies the wounded officer as Trooper Larry Vaughn. Trooper Silvia Jennings in Tyler says a Vaughn was wounded while backing up Wood County sheriff's deputies serving an aggravated assault warrant at a house on Farm Road 1801, just east of Mineola.

Jennings says a gunshot fired through a window from inside the house hit Vaughn in the face, then a man inside the house surrendered.

Vaughn is in critical but stable condition at East Texas Medical Center in Tyler and is expected to recover. She says 45-year-old Timothy Charles Parmer of Mineola is in Wood County Jail. A jail official says he's being held, for now, on a motion to revoke probation.
