Celine Markert, a senior on the Texas A&M women’s track and field team, selected Yoakum High School teacher Jay Quinney to be recognized through the College Football Playoff Foundation’s Extra Yard for Teachers program.

“I chose Mr. Quinney because he was a teacher who cared not only about academics but about the student themselves,” said Markert, who is on track to graduate in December with a degree in kinesiology. “As a future educator, I hope I can create similar relationships and impact a student’s education in the way he did for me.”

Markert took math classes from Quinney as a sophomore and senior in high school. She is currently a student-teacher in Goliad alternating between elementary, junior high and high school classes.
