With an 84-72 defeat just minutes behind him, and with no more reason to lament about it, Texas A&M men's basketball coach Billy Kennedy promised the Aggies would make the tournament next year ... the NCAA Tournament.
With three seniors to be, Alex Caruso, Jalen Jones and Danuel House, returning with plenty of experience and a talented group coming in, Kennedy said the program was in great position.
"I will go on record to say now we will be tournament team next year. We really look forward to next year," Kennedy said.
When asked to verify he meant NCAA tournament team, Kennedy said "I'm talking about NCAA, yes.
The schedule is tough and Kennedy embraces it.
The statement came at time the Aggies had just been outplayed, but that did not discourage Kennedy.
Style of play and some great guard play by Louisiana Tech made it difficult for the Aggies to continue on this season.
The loss at the end of the season to House didn't help. Kennedy said next year he feels the roster will be deep enough to absorb such an injury.
Kennedy added that he believed House will return for his senior season after admitting if he would have been healthy and gone on a good tournament run that might not have been the case.
