John Harvey Slocum, the youngest son of Texas A&M interim athletic director R.C. Slocum collapsed Sunday morning while playing golf in Midland and is in an induced coma.

R.C. Slocum requested prayers from his Facebook friends.

“He was unconscious and had to be given CPR,” R.C. Slocum posted. “They have lowered his body temp.”

R.C. Slocum and his wife,  Nel, were en route to Midland.

John Harvey Slocum, who graduated from A&M in 1999, is a gifted golfer who in April 1999 underwent a risky operation to correct a life-threatening heart defect. Thanks to the surgery, he returned to school and graduated, and also has continued to play golf, becoming a successful businessman.
