SACRAMENTO, Calif. — Four Aggies qualified for the NCAA Championships on the first day of the NCAA West Preliminary Rounds on Thursday at Hornet Stadium.

A&M senior Maddy Stulce finished fifth in the women’s javelin at 167 feet, 1 inch, and Tyra Gittens placed eighth in the women’s high jump (5-10.75) to advance.

On the men’s side, Jacob Wooten and Carl Johansson advanced in the pole vault. Wooten finished third at 17-7, while Johansson tied for 10th at 17-5 and won a jumpoff over teammate Robin Nool.

The top 12 in each event advance to the NCAA Championships set for June 5-8 in Austin.

Day 1 action at the West Preliminary Rounds was ongoing at press time.
