Texas A&M senior outside hitter Hollann Hans was named to the All-Southeastern Conference volleyball team, and the Aggies were picked to finish sixth in the coaches’ preseason poll.
Hans made the 18-player All-SEC team last season along with earning All-America honorable mention from the American Volleyball Coaches Association. She also was the first Aggie to be named the AVCA’s All-South Region player of the year. She had 64 aces last season to rank fourth in the country, breaking the school record of 59 set in 1983.
The All-SEC preseason team includes Rachael Kramer from Florida, Gabby Curry, Leah Edmond and Madison Lilley from Kentucky, Taylor Bannister from LSU, Emily Stroup from Ole Miss, Kyle Deberg from Missouri, Mikayla Shields from South Carolina and Tessa Grubbs from Tennessee.
Defending champion Kentucky is picked to defend its title. The Wildcats received 11-first place votes and 143 points. Florida is second with two first-place votes and 132 points. Tennessee is third with 118 points followed by Missouri (113), South Carolina (97), A&M (88), LSU (82), Georgia (58), Arkansas (52), Ole Miss (49), Alabama (46), Auburn (20) and Mississippi State (16).
A&M went 17-13 last season, including 10-8 in SEC play to tie Mississippi State for fifth, three games behind fourth-place Missouri.
A&M will play Baylor in an exhibition match on Aug. 24 at Reed Arena and open the regular season Aug. 30 against Dayton in the Cardinal Classic in Louisville, Kentucky.
