The A&M Consolidated Tiger tennis team captured the team title at the 24th Annual Viking Classic on Saturday. The Tigers finished with 245 points, narrowly holding off Class 3A Vernon (239).

Saturday's portion of the two-day tournament was moved indoors to the City of Bryan Tennis Center because of the weather.

Consolidated had three finalists in the five final events, with the mixed doubles team of Agustin and Anik Cepeda taking first.

Consolidated's boys doubles team of Kevin Duffy and Jorge Aguilar finished second, and Heather Brien was second in girls singles.

Bryan's teams finished 10th and 13th in the 16-team field, with the doubles team of Travis Havemann and Colton Marucci finishing fourth, and Michael Martin finishing fourth in singles.

The Vikings' mixed doubles team of Ashley Greig and Matt Hillestad finished fifth. Jody Golsan was sixth in singles, and Josh Atkins and Ryan Hillestad were seventh in doubles.

"We are still looking for a balance in our effort and trying to find a doubles combination that will give a bit more success in the girls divisions," Bryan head coach Randy Stewart said. "Overall I was pleased with our effort, but we still have plenty of room for improvement."
