Authorities identify man killed in crash

Eagle Staff Report

A man killed in a fiery head-on collision Monday night in Grimes County was identified Tuesday as Paul Daniel Hammock of Porter.

Hammock, 25, was driving east on Texas 105 about six miles east of Navasota when his Chevrolet pickup suddenly swerved into oncoming traffic, police said. The pickup struck an 18-wheeler driven by 30-year-old Andre McClanahan of Houston.

The tractor trailer, which was loaded with vegetables, burst into flames, but McClanahan managed to escape the burning vehicle, police said. He was taken to Grimes St. Joseph Health Center in Navasota and was treated for minor scrapes and bruises.

Hammock was not wearing a seat belt and was ejected from his pickup, police said. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

Services for Hammock are pending with Nobles Funeral Home in Navasota.
