NAVASOTA - The Bellville Brahmas opened 23-3A play with a convincing 49-14 victory over the Navasota Rattlers at Brule Field Friday night.
Bellville (5-1, 1-0) jumped to a 28-0 lead before Navasota got a boost just before halftime on a 61-yard touchdown pass from Jacolby Stokes to Randall Jackson.
Bellville had controlled the game by taking advantage of Navasota turnovers with a fine-tuned running attack.
Byron Abbs had 19 carries for 154 yards and two touchdowns. He had a 40-yard run to open Bellville's scoring. Abbs caught a touchdown pass from Layne O'Connor to make it 14-0 after the Rattlers muffed a punt. Navasota fumbled the kickoff at its 22, which resulted in another Bellville score.
Navasota's offense struggled as Stokes was 4-of-24 passing with two interceptions. Navasota also lost three fumbles.
Bellville increased its lead to 42-7 in the third quarter. Navasota's final touchdown was an 18-yard run by Jamel Thompson to cap a 16-play, 66-yard drive.
The Rattlers (3-3, 0-1) will be at Giddings next week.
