At the A&M Garden Club’s October meeting, president Mary Ann Taylor directed discussion of club participation in decorating a Christmas tree at Bryan’s Carnegie Library. After the meeting, members toured the gardens at the country home of Oscar and Swany Parulian. Next month’s program will be “Native Plant Landscaping” by Loretta Mokry at the Brazos County Expo Center. For details, call 779-1068.

The League of Women Voters will meet at 11:30 a.m. Tuesday at China King Buffet in the Kroger Shopping Center. Doris Watson, former local league president who also was state board secretary and budget chair, will discuss “League 101: What Does It Mean to Be a Member of the League of Women Voters.” New members are welcome. At the Texas Research Ramblers Genealogical Society meeting Sept. 29, president Bill Lay introduced the other new officers: vice president Mary Elizabeth Dresser, recording secretary Georgianne Bigam, treasurer Sue Foy and corresponding secretary Carol Lyon. Nancy Hanson discussed “Scrapbooking in a Creative Way” and Henry Hanson exhibited examples. Membership chair Kitty Anding introduced new members, while communications chair Frances Martin discussed the mail server. Education chair Barbara Althaus mentioned the Writers Group meeting every third Tuesday and a computer workshop Nov. 9. Publications chair Helen Kunz distributed yearbooks, prepared with Foy. Publicity chair Jane Cohen distributed a membership flier. Travel chairs Bliss Wolfe and Dresser announced trips to Clayton Library and the Salt Lake City trip in October. Barbara Brodigan reported the audit was done. Bill Page discussed Page’s Pages, a listing of resources at Texas A&M University. The next meeting will be Oct. 27.

Winners Oct. 11 were: N/S: 1. Karen Bachman and Barbara Petty; 2. Joyce England and Nell Page; E/W 1. Sara Branch and Joyce Greinert; 2. Baldwin and Gates.

The Woman’s Club honored president Robby Colwell with a tea Oct. 6, chaired by Carol Montgomery. Members were received by past president Alice Hickerson, president Michelle Colwell, Angie Bridges, Jeane McGown, Estelle Buffa, Sarah Ashburn, Iris Baker, Nancy Beard, Keith Halsell, Sandra Trapani, Kay Hamilton and Betty White.
