An open letter to The Eagle’s readers from Jan Brown of Houston crossed my desk last week and it seemed appropriate that it receive attention beyond the Opinion Page. She wrote eloquently of her child, Kandy, who met a violent death in Bryan 14 years ago. The message is a vivid reminder that life can be short and that we should make the most of relationships — be they with our children or our friends. But it’s also one of hope and faith — because that is all we really have.
