Trial and execution
The murder of Kandy Kirtland
The mother of a 9-year-old killed in Bryan in May 1987 will return to town Wednesday to share how the execution of the man who murdered her daughter has affected her and why she's opposed to the death penalty.
An open letter to The Eagle’s readers from Jan Brown of Houston crossed my desk last week and it seemed appropriate that it receive attention beyond the Opinion Page. She wrote eloquently of her child, Kandy, who met a violent death in Bryan 14 years ago. The message is a vivid reminder that life can be short and that we should make the most of relationships — be they with our children or our friends. But it’s also one of hope and faith — because that is all we really have.
Bryan police continued their search Wednesday for a missing 9-year-old Bryan girl, and said they are looking for a middle-aged man for questioning in connection with the girl's disappearance.
