Ruth Victoria Bowley

June 20, 1913 — Feb. 2, 2004

CAMERON — Services for Ruth Victoria Bowley, 90, of Cameron are set for 2 p.m. Thursday at New Beginnings Full Gospel Tabernacle in Cameron.

The Revs. Robert H. Glenn and Kenneth W. Bowley will officiate. Burial will be in Oak Hill Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at Green-Patterson Funeral Home in Cameron.

Mrs. Bowley died Monday in a Cameron hospital.

She was born in Stanford and was a homemaker. She was a member of the New Beginnings Full Gospel Tabernacle.

She was preceded in death by her husband, the Rev. H.M. Bowley; and a son, Robert W. Bowley.

Survivors include three sons, Dwain Bowley of Cameron, Kenneth W. Bowley of Rock Hill, N.C., and Phillip Don Bowley of Belton; six daughters, Norma Ruth Crouch, Patricia Glenn, Linda Mayer and Glenda Hays, all of Cameron, Mary Edna Davis and LaWanda Black, both of Malakoff; a brother, William C. Kinnison of Lake Livingston; a sister, Norma L. Thompson of Lubbock; 30 grandchildren; 54 great-grandchildren; and five great-great-grandchildren.

Mildred Louise Calhoun Bunns

Jan. 29, 2004

MARLIN — Services for Mildred Louise Calhoun Bunns, 81, of Calvert are set for 1 p.m. Wednesday at Independent Baptist Church in Calvert.

The Rev. Vincent Collier will officiate. Burial will be in Beauty Rest Cemetery.

Arrangements are under the direction of Paul Funeral Home in Marlin.

Mrs. Bunns died Thursday.

She was born in Kaufman County and grew up in Calvert. She attended Calvert Colored High School and was a member of Independent Baptist Church where she sang in the choir, served as trustee and was president of the Mission Society.

Survivors include six daughters and two sons-in-law, LaWanna Clark of Calvert, Edna Kaye Clark of Moreno Valley, Calif., Ola Cole and Hilda Hurst, both of Houston, Connie and Howard Eaglin of Lake Charles, La., and Kathy and George Portis of Killeen; a son, Lorris Bunns of Calvert; 10 grandchildren; and 15 great-grandchildren.

Anna Bell Canady

July 12, 1926 — Jan. 29, 2004

Services for Anna Bell Canady, 77, of Bryan are set for 11 a.m. Wednesday at Pleasant Grove Baptist Church in Bryan.

The Rev. Craig Anderson of Pleasant Grove Baptist Church will officiate. Burial will be in Rest-Ever Memorial Park.

Visitation will be from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. Tuesday at Daniel & Son Funeral Home in Bryan.

Mrs. Canady died Thursday in St. Joseph Regional Health Center.

She was born in Hearne. She lived most of her life in Bryan and nine years in Madisonville. She attended beauty college and was a retired beautician. She was a secretary at Castle Heights Baptist Church.

She was preceded in death by her husband, L.V. Canady; and a son, Lee Vance Canady.

Survivors include two sons, Lawrence Eugene Canady of Bryan and Morris Carter Jr. of Port Arthur; a brother, S.J. Singleton of Bryan; a sister, Alma White of Bryan; five grandchildren; and a great-grandchild.

Memorials may be made to Pleasant Grove Baptist Church.

Ernestine E. Harvey

June 25, 1936 — Jan. 29, 2004

NAVASOTA — Services for Ernestine E. Harvey, 67, of San Antonio are set for 10 a.m. Wednesday at the Missionary Camp Baptist Church in Navasota.

Visitation will be from noon to 9 p.m. Tuesday at Jones Funeral Home in Navasota.

Mrs. Harvey died Thursday at Northeast Baptist Hospital.

She was born in Millican and was a member of the Missionary Camp Baptist Church.

Survivors include four sons, Donnie Blue of Fort Worth, James Blue of Dallas, Leonard Blue of Watuaga and Ronnie Blue of Navasota; seven daughters and three sons-in-law, Betty and John Hood of Camden, Ada Blue-Wesley and Dandria and Derrick Johnson, all of Navasota, Jacquelyn Hudson of San Antonio, Evelyn and Robert Mabrey of Bryan, Tannya Blue of Colorado Springs, Colo., and Roberta Blue of Fort Worth; a brother, Calvin Ross of Navasota; five sisters, Winnie Ross Allen of Millican, Ardella Hamilton, Barbara Ross-Williams and Nell Ross Person, all of Fort Worth, and Shirley Ross Wheatfall of Arlington; 38 grandchildren; and 28 great-grandchildren.

Hattie Mae Latson

Jan. 27, 1913 — Jan. 29, 2004

Services for Hattie Mae Latson, 91, of Bryan are set for 11 a.m. Tuesday at Greater Tabernacle Baptist Church in Bryan.

The Rev. D.N. Jones of Greater Tabernacle Baptist Church will officiate. Burial will be in Wheelock Cemetery.

Arrangements are under the direction of Daniel & Son Funeral Home in Bryan.

Mrs. Latson died Thursday in St. Joseph Regional Health Center.

She was born in Wheelock and was a longtime resident of Bryan. She received a bachelor’s degree from Huston-Tillotson College and a master’s degree from Prairie View A&M University. She was a retired educator. She was a member of the Greater Tabernacle Baptist Church where she was president of Missions, secretary and a member of the usher board.

She was preceded in death by her husband, John Henry Latson Sr.

Survivors include a son and daughter-in-law, John Henry and LaJewell Latson of Bryan; a brother, Joseph Galloway of Laverne, Calif.; her companion, Rudolph Johnson of Bryan; seven grandchildren; and 18 great-grandchildren.

Memorials may be made to the Greater Tabernacle Baptist Church.

Ruby Strauss

Dec. 17, 1947 — Feb. 1, 2004

MADISONVILLE — Services for Ruby Strauss, 56, of Madisonville are set for 10 a.m. Wednesday at J.M. Day Funeral Home Chapel in Madisonville.

The Rev. Joe Dacus will officiate. Burial will be Friday in Patton Junction, Mo.

Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.

Mrs. Strauss died Sunday in Houston.

She was born in Frederick Town, Mo., and was a member of the First Baptist Church in Madisonville. She was retired from Madison St. Joseph Health Center.

Survivors include her husband, Thomas Strauss of Madisonville; two daughters, Rhenae Strauss and Tammy Strauss, both of Madisonville; and numerous brothers and sisters.
