Police identify man found dead in pipe

Eagle Staff Report

A man found last week dead in a drainage pipe has been identified through fingerprints, Bryan police said Monday.

The man was 34-year-old Jerry Ray Davis of Bryan, said Officer Walt Melnyk, a spokesman for the department.

The body was found Friday in the pipe along East 31st Street by children attending the nearby First Presbyterian Church Children’s Center. Detectives were called to investigate and were able to identify the man over the weekend, Melnyk said.

The man’s family was notified of his death Monday, Melnyk said.

Preliminary results indicate Davis may have drowned, but Melnyk said investigators are awaiting final autopsy and toxicology results to determine his cause of death.
