Workforce group to get $50,000 grant

Eagle staff report

The Texas Workforce Commission’s labor commissioner plans to come to town Thursday to present a $50,000 grant to the Brazos Valley Workforce Development Board for superior performance in 2001.

The presentation by Commissioner T.P. O’Mahoney is set for 2 p.m. at the Brazos Valley Council of Governments office at 1706 East 29th St. in Bryan.

The award is based on the center’s effectiveness in the 34 performance measures established by the state.

O’Mahoney also plans to make a stop Thursday morning in Brenham to give a $133,860 job training grant to a four-company consortium. The funds will be used to custom-train workers who will fill 265 new or upgraded jobs as machinists or maintenance technicians.

The award presentation is scheduled for 10:30 a.m. at Tarlton Supply Co., 3140 South Horton St.
